Said I’d make this thread as I assume I’ll be the first one drilling them :scratchhead:
Ah ya but once you cross the Shannon you’re in a different country ya seeHere lad, I haven't even sprayed anything off yet
When you planning on starting ?Did it rain last night? Is Isabel scarce?
20th of October plus or minus five days. My aim is to keep it standing. The hope of an extra half tonne is not worth the worry of having it on the ground. When you planning on starting ?
Has the MF30 departed?Ploughing for winter oats today, a cranky field is tough enough going, ploughing up quite tight, will need a few days.
Back home late tonight and its lovely stuff.
Got a nice drop of rain here this morning.
Plan on one passing at the weekend.
Has the MF30 departed?
I can understand that in chancy weather, cuts down the risk. No, just prefer sowing winter cereals with the one pass that's all.
.
Plenty of rain again here this morning 🙄

Is that seeding rate on the low side?Started sowing Isabel Oats @ 140kg/ha.View attachment 83358View attachment 83359

I try to sow W.O. between Oct 10th and 20th here, it is very sensitive to sowing date and those dates are for Carlow, Galway I would think might need to be a day or 2 earlier, but I wouldn't sow before the 5th.
Is the land fresh, 1st or 2nd lea?
It is lower than I would advise others to sow at, but it seems to work here, I probably would like a higher seeding rate if condition weren't good but going into damn near perfect seedbed. Is that seeding rate on the low side?
I think 155kg/ha should be good, at this time of year and into reasonable sowing conditions, but it really depends on TGW and quality of seed and seedbed.I’m not great at sowing rates yet, 200kg to the hectare is my rate for everything, with oats though the last bit I sown was 155kg to the hectare, I’ll probably get oats finished tonight or tomorrow not as good as conditions as gone but not pure muck either, would ye think 155 is okay or go up a bit, I read that high sowing rates of oats can lodge them ?
I would have liked to, but rain this morning put pay to that.Looks lovely gone, are you going to ring roll that?

Your spot on at that, I’ve heard 12/13 stone being mentionedIt is lower than I would advise others to sow at, but it seems to work here, I probably would like a higher seeding rate if condition weren't good but going into damn near perfect seedbed.
