Winter oats 2021

Starting into the brothers oats tomorrow and his land is in lovely condition. His farm is no more then 1/4 of a mile from mine as the crow flies yet his soils are much lighter then mine. Aiming for 180 kg's a hectare although reading here tonight i'm wondering if I should cut the rate back a bit?.

Your spot on at that, I’ve heard 12/13 stone being mentioned
Lower seeding rates means stronger plants
Aiming for 9 here too plus 10% if conditions dictate

I hope the weather doesn't come as bad as what those guys are expecting to be planting in...

If I get something sown in the next two days, it is more the rain next week that I'm concerned about to be honest!!
Up here, with those fields, if it is white it is right.
Next week wouldn't worry me one bit, but that is here.

With respect, looking at the photo it didn't need a thermal camera to see that bearing is shot.
One of the wheels has a hot bearing. That drill has well north of 20000 acres sown. He has some handy fix worked out for the wheel bearings. I was surprised to see heat in the seed pipes.

Got the father to go hedge cutting for a few hours and managed to get drilling finished for the year, mucked in but it wasn’t going to get better
