Winter Wheat 2021

I do find it hard to bring myself to look at this horrible yoke, here’s what it looks like now, don’t know if it’s an improvement or not I suppose it only really got one mild week since

If worse comes to worse I’ll have plenty of time to disc it out before mid April anyway
Gosh, I don’t see need for that looking at your pictures. It appears to be putting out tillers too.

We have some sections of wheat fields which will likely be disced and put into Phacelia in April/May.

Hopefully not now just don’t know what way it’s going to go

Your better to leave it. If it does 3 tonne won't that be better than spraying off, disking buying sb seed sowing again and maybe only getting 2.5 tonne of an?
Any time I did the figures, I found that if the winter crop can be nursed along to yield 2.5t it will leave as much as 3t off the second crop.
Unfortunately that is in or around zero for both.
A lot of people forget to include the cost of the first lot of seed and all other inputs put into the original crop when doing the costings for the second crop, the roughly €100/acre already spent on the field makes the second crop very expensive to grow.

Ah ya I’m only saying that as there was times there you wouldn’t know if it was going to grow at all, biggest mistake I reckon was liming before ploughing and maybe applying no K at sowing

Q: is it green from the road
A: Yes
Just get half compound out
2-3 bags of gran lime and get remainder of compound out before paddy’s day and heap of niter
Be grand
Would you go more gran lime again even after it got 2 bags to the acre already and there is 3t to the acre somewhere in the soil

He is from Wexford and does not be well . Just tell him you have the Gro lime ordered and will put it out with a helicopter .
I wouldn’t worry about the wexicans, when I was in college with the cork, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford lads etc and I used to bring the lads down from Galway they used to say “Jesus lad your the most normal person out of your friends from home and you’re not normal at all”

Pacifica is hard on crop but I like the product, use it at 0.25 kg/ha or less. Works out cost effective as it follows an earlier spray of something like Dff plus Zypar.
