im a big fan of said make but have always wondered why an ursus which is a zetor built in Poland was never as good as a zetor?

never had anything to do with an ursus but managed to get 9 folk and a black lab in a zetor cab once during a thunderstorm :) it was quite friendly untill the dog got exited and bit the driver for squashing its leg with the brake pedals :)

We have a Crystal 8011 at home, it's a rare beast. Apparently they are making good money for export as the eastern bloc wants them back. I have only driven our shed for about 5 minutes, but it was fun!
What was the connection between Ursus and Zetor? I know they were the same tractor essentially, but why have the two names?

Next door neighbour has a 8011, put thousands of hours on it. Took it in, full refurb. It now gets out to cart silage in twice a year. He always has the "roof" open, and it pours out black smoke like a locomotive! Must get some pics!

an ursus is just a zetor built in poland as part off the commie system.

And the zetor was built in Czechoslovakia?

Where they ever officially imported into the UK? What was the dealer back up like?

---------

yup zetor is czech and they were both officially imported to the uk

zetor put 4wd and a very usefull cab on to a lot of hill farms in the 70,s and was probably the start of passenger seats in cabs ,a vast improvement to standing on the drawbar

Some would argue with that. Ursus had the doors attached the wrong way around but best of all they had a suspended front axel

of sorts.
Still. Both were great to drive and well ahead of their time.
Belarus on the other hand were, well, entertaining to drive.
Even more so if the circlip that held the 4wd stub axel on had
broke. If you made the tractor raise up at the front then both
front wheels would drop off. Oh those were the days.:D

jd8530 why is there a big gap in your post was there ment to be a pic?welcome by the way:cool:

Hi Grumps
No picture in the gap. Just a deliberate space.

Like this.
But if you want a picture here's one.

ahh ok for dramatic effect to emphasis the wheels are likely to fall off an ursus and a belarus ?

been here http://www.zetorworld.com/ Grumps?

Doctor Zetor (Renze) knows a thing or 2 about all things Zetor.

I think, the Crystals were built by ZTS, I'm not sure of the tie up with Ursus, but they might have made some of the components in some kind of Soviet job creation scheme.

In days gone by there used to be quite a bit of this copy cat tractor building.
Universals were copies of Fiats, eg. the 640
IMT's were, well, imitation massey tractors.
and landini made a tractor that had a striking resemblence to a MF 690.

Oh and as for the Belarus, when we were lads we went down to that london to the smithfield show. We were having a look around the Belarus stand, jumping in, tyre kicking, that sort of thing when one of my mates shouted out " Oi there's an even worse one over here":D:D:D

From wikithick
By 1961, there was a growing need for tractors in Poland, but the tractors produced by the Ursus factory did not meet the needs of Polish agriculture. A bilateral agreement was created between Poland and Czechoslovakia, where Czechoslovakia would provide the Ursus factory with the parts necessary to enlarge and modernize the factory and in exchange, Poland would supply Czechoslovak factories with raw materials. The goal was to construct a join tractor industry where Poland and Czechoslovakia would combine to produce 120,000 tractors per year, as in 1963 Poland was only producing 15,000.
