Is it too late for a bit of fertilizer

Renting a five acre field off a neighbour. Only got it yesterday. It hasn't been fertilized and has a below average cut now. Want it for hay. Is it too late to put out a bit of fertilizer to bulk it up a bit. Or would I be safe with a bag and a half of 18 6 12 ? Main thing is that I don't want it getting mad green as I don't know when I will be cutting. Or what about straight nitrogen?

I'd lash on the 18-6-12 if it was me, that will be used up in less than 2 weeks of good growing conditions.

It's the same amount of mowing tedding rowing whether it's heavy or light
