Essex fertiliser explosion.

50t of ammonium nitrate. A diesel tank was also involved in the incident.

Just wanted to remind those of you that have ammonium nitrate stored on farms. We were part of a 20 pump attendance to the farm fire and subsequent explosion on a farm just outside Chelmsford yesterday evening. The first crews were called to a grass fire that then spread to the farm buildings , an outside diesel tank at the side of one of the buildings then got involved. The heat that built up inside the building then caused the fertiliser to start gassing off , after a short time then 50 t exploded, destroying 2 fire appliances, flattened the entire yard of small industrial units , also sending steel roof trusses up to 200 yards away, hitting houses and cars also setting those alight, plus putting 31 people in hospital, 21 of those were firefighters. Maybe now is the time to check your storage facilities and ensure no close by fire loading material. Stay safe !

Yes, you have to be registered to buy high nitrogen fertilisers (not just pure AN). There is a limit of 150t stored in a single stack.
 
A small merchant in Ballymahon went up a few years ago as they have a small engine repair, someone was fixing a petrol appliance and a fire started then the fertilizer outside took heat from the fire and it went serious, we could see it from where we were working, 15km by road away,would be less as tbe crow flies but some blaze and smoke

Lorraine's father and my uncle could have used it for catching fish if they were still about , similar to a mick Dundee job.....
@Scruffy91 has moved into her home parish and meself and himself could start a commercial fishing enterprise
