Silage 2026

Finished mowing at 1 and hopefully have the rake in it around 2:30 and start baling first thing in the morning, but equally could be back into it this evening with the baler… would actually nearly like a heavy dew on it tonight and bale it into it

I mowed a bit that contractors gps put at 5.4 acres yesterday evening . Raked 2.5 hours later . Baled at noon today . 12 bales . It had started to wilt on the shank . It was mowed on the 18th of June . It got neither fertiliser or slurry due to dry weather . There would be less on it after what is being forecast for next 2 days .

I was talking to a man going into Tullamore on Sunday in the trailer . He said he had baled what he considered a right good field of 20 acres on Thursday He had 58 bales , and put 2 bags of CAN per acre on it .
 
3rd cut on my wet ground, cut 6 weeks ago, baled today at 3 bales per acre, had to cut so as to have the last cut ready to go before rain in September.

I had more field 200m away on dry ground, and there was zero on them to cut in 6 weeks

Looks more than 3 to the acre! Thanks for the reminder of what it’s supposed to look like colour wise 😂😂

We use proper balers down here.

An American recently said landing in Shannon airport is identical as landing in Kentucky 😮, she over laid the videos on Tictok and it’s very similar 😮

It’s a proper baler here too, it still looks more than 3, but that’s probably all, “it looks” it doesn’t be too long disappearing.

That was 14th of July, I cut the field beside it a few days later as it was disappearing into the ground. It was probably the last time we saw anything resembling green grass here, thankfully you’d notice the heavy dews at night are just about giving a little colour back to the lower ground… That bit just barely made 4/acre

1st cut silage cut outside my ditch last weekend. Neighbour that considers themselves to be a very good farmer also I must add.
 
Just doing my sums today, I reckon we are 12 to 13 bales per acre still short on last years tally over 4 cuts. Be hard to see 4th cut return more than 5 bales per ac, that’s 8 bales per ac less for the year 😬
