A record I would say?

gone

A local contractor has been sowing the corn on my Mother's home farm for the last 57 years continuously without missing a year. He started doing work for my Grandfather in 1958 and then sowed for my Uncle, right up to and including this year.
Nash would love his setup a MF30 behind a Ford3910, (changed this year for a 4630?).
In 1943 my Grandfather bought a Binder and it so happen this self same binder ended up owned by the above contractor, so a couple of pics of the binder, (~70years apart)

Finnish up winter plantings, I hope, with a bit of Husky Oats.
This contractor has sown for my Grandfather, my Father, my Uncles and Me.
His 58th sowing season on this farm, no one has sown any corn on that farm other than him since 1957.

I like his drill there gone!

Bar the coulters of course!

No we are on tines!

Exact same drill as ours down to the wheels and seems to be 2.4m as well.

I wouldn't mind that tractor though instead of the 3600!

Yes a 2.4m, he bought it new in 1984, he had a disc coulter one before that, it was great to sow beans.

Starting to think he has the right idea, some of the gear used to sow a bit of corn now is like shooting crows with a machine gun!

a credit to yerselves and your contractor for going so long together.

A lot to be said for light machinery on the land....

Nice work and nice to be finished Gone.

A tidy setup that, how many acres would he get through in a day?

It's a long time to be working together, speaks volumes.

Is that a Ryder man from outside myshall? Could be the wrong name but lives on garyhill road with the little sheds beside the road?

Our own antique one pass will do the job thanks. Can't understand why you would need to spend €70k just to sow corn that's worth fook all.

If your one pass is an antique, our MF30 must be prehistoric :(:(:D

Ah but that combined spreader adds a lot of value.

Well I have seen my father sowing 20 acres a day handy enough including filling on his own and maybe picking the odd stone. Wouldn't be an overly long day at that.

Small fields here kill output at times. Key is to have seed nearby. I typically stand all the bags in the trailer and it is very easy to load them in the box then.

That's him, he draws a good bit of meal, hay and straw for the farmers around Myshall all winter and then sowing, spraying and hay for the rest of the year.

Yea often see him on the road. He must be a popular man as there is always cars parked at his sheds at the side of the road at all hours of the day and night. I do pass his place most days

He used to sow for two bachelor brothers that live up near Glynns . No revving and tearing but always got the job done . I often saw him going with loads of straw usually small bales . Have we lost something in those 58 years . Is he still doing it for the same price ?

Spraying the Oats and Wheat today.
