One of your MP's described it as sneering and that's exactly what the pair of you 2 have been doing . As for you politics degree well you can take a man of the street send him to uni to get a degree in farming but he's still just scratching the surface
I'm not sneering, i'm just pointing out the bad points of it as one side of a discussion. And you're making suggestions from the other side, which you're entitled to do. If the bad outweigh the good or the good outweigh the bad then that's how you make progress.

No I didn't pay UK vat as I am VAT registered. The supplier made a digital invoice for the customs and he had all the commodity codes stated for each item and that made the customs process seamless.

Stop the finger pointing, no one knows yet the full extent of Brexit. Will take time for everything to settle down whether good or bad. No one here has a degree as far as i know in crystal ball reading. Deal was only done three weeks ago, there should have been a grace period of 3 months in my books so companies could adapt to the new rules.

If you were not VAT registered would you be rightly caught though.
I buy plenty of Tools and parts stuff from companies in UK Etc but am not VAT registered. if bringing in the same purchase as you, would I not be caught for VAT in both jurisdictions. ??? That would leave it same expensive.

You can't be charged vat at the UK side afaik, if its something that originated outside the UK there might be extra tariffs on it and vat at this side.

While I think Brexit wasn't a great idea, and I think the process was implemented horrendously over the last 4 years I do think it's a bit much to be declaring it a disaster after three weeks.
it's a long term strategic change (that has been done in an utterly un-strategic manner) and it will take years to know if it is a success or not.
Despite what people were told, there was always going to be short term pain. The success of Brexit can only be judged if long term gain materialises and if it overcomes the short term pain.

I found the combination of either amazon or eBay coupled with parcel motel a powerful weapon for satisfaction.
as I quoted on another thread a while back I got a brand new genuine CNH CAT 3 top link for £120 stg plus €3.95 parcel motel fee Delivered to me a while back. Can’t sneeze at that when any option in ireland was In excess of €300!

The UK economy has gone from the best in Europe to the worst in Europe in 5 years
London City is gone from the biggest financial city in the world, early 2016 to 5th or maybe 7th this year.

The supplier in the UK cannot charge UK vat if the goods are going to a customer outside the UK.
To the best of my knowledge at the moment tariffs only apply to goods coming into the EU from an outside country or to goods originating in the EU going into the UK and then back into the EU.
As a free trade deal was done goods originating in the UK will not be subject to tariffs in general. There are products that cannot be imported.

This is my understanding of it, if you buy something in the UK you don't pay the VAT, that applies if you are VAT registered or not
Then it comes to the customs checkpoint and if you are not VAT registered you have to pay the courier company the 21% Irish VAT rate and the courier company pays this then to the Irish Government, on top of the 21% you have to pay a customs charge and I don't know what percentage that is, it probably depends on what the item is.
I'm wondering what happens if you bought something in the UK and got it posted to NI what charges would apply
