Grain prices

Given that the Boormalt price is an average of prices since a few months back, is there a chance that come October feed barley could actually be worth more than the price Boormalt are paying out for malt if the current price rises continue or would you expect the malt price to rise at a higher rate than feed barley anyway?

Very much possible. Plus the 10 euro drying charge is more meaningful this year given the small difference between feed and malting.
 
Boortmalt need a good kick up where the sun dont shine. Low premium over feed price and limited tonnage accepted and yet the merchant charges a premium for the seed and corn spray. At the end of this year it will pay guys to work out there sums on if a higher yielding feed corn with less expensive seed and sprays plus not having to pay someone to wait in a depot for over a hour to get protein checked then fail.

Will be my last year sowing winter craft malt barley, next season will be a six row feed barley BYDV resistanced sowed early with a takeall dressing. Half a ton more yield per acre will make it more profitable.

The whole growing malting barley thing reminds me of finishing cattle for factories. Alot of hoops to jump through with precarious pitfalls along the way and at the very end, with promises of huge rewards with little realization. I think I'll stick with the predictable feed barley trade

I see in the journal that trilan set their 2026 prices last week, I assume they have set them early this year because they are rising!

Have they set it or paying part of the price now and the rest when the price is settled? Seems very early for them

I saw that, I was wondering if it was a misprint and it was supposed to say harvest 2027.

I didn’t hear anything else about 2026 harvest prices being set.

You could be right, can't find anything on their site for 2026.

That was a forward sale price.
