It depends when it was closed ip. A friend of mine never made silage til 1st/2nd week of August for years as it councided with factory shutdown in the place he worked. He would graze everthing til the june bank holiday or a bit later. He has since been converted back to early June silage.

1st cut silage cut outside my ditch last weekend. Neighbour that considers themselves to be a very good farmer also I must add.

I think these lads are great farmers.
Once a year land on and mow it and swarth it and you've bales that regardless of what you do still hold there shape perfectly.
And you only have to go 30ft for each bale.
Brilliant job

Another bit of 3rd cut today, its gathering up small , nice stuff though.

Took 40 bales off 10 acres of second cut haylage in galway yesterday. Was really happy with it - it doubled up in the last 10 days. It leaves me with 6 months of silage.

Was talking to my daughter in New Zealand where she is on placement on a dairy farm. She send me a video of the farm next door with a big cloud of black smoke rising from the farmyard and fire engines on site. The farmer had burned some rubbish at the silage pit wall and the flames went up and set fire to the car tyres covering the silage pit. Some disaster.

Happened a few years ago near Killumney. Had to put a track machine on top of silage pit to scrape off the burnt plastic, tyres and wire from the tyres and then cover pit. Some mess!

Easy enough if you have time. Just sit in it all day everyday and watch the traffic pass. For a road like it, there's quite a few cars that pass there
