Soil Sampling

Hi anyone use iaslabs.ie? I'm looking to get fields tested silage and grass. Where would I get a soil sampling tool by Friday? Can you rent them?.. With my lack of planning slurry might be put out Saturday and its all rush..rush now. Cavan
Phone oldcastle labs.sure there as local to cavan as you get.probaly give you a sampler or ask your planner for it

Ias are sound. No bother with them, dont know about getting a core sampler off them though. You could resort to the trowel and plastic bag if very stuck
Yeah might or a narrow pipe and hammer maybe.. to hammer it down and hope sample in pipe.. like macgyver would do :-)

So to get me over the bind.. if I used a narrow pipe and took out sample(slurry is planned to be applied Friday.. So times against me). Yes bad planning on my part.. .. The core should be about 2inches in length and about. 5 inch in thickness.. something like that..? Will likely take samples first before knowing where there going to be sampled..

It needs to be a stainless steel pipe. It cant be brass or galvanized materials.

Yeah I got it from them before as they done sample but would like to use a croud that also does the analysis - Oldcastle said they only give raw data.. won't say what I need, I struggled to interpret the data last time

Are you looking for a full mineral analysis.eg all minerals in the soil
Thompson and Joseph in UK does it.
Do you deal with lakeland for any meal.they would give you a core r and set it off
or maybe it's just the standard p k and lime test your looking for .

Thanks no just a basic(standard) soil sample of grass.. Will see about using a spade or the like and get a few sample from silage fields before slurry is put on at weekend. Thanks all for replies

Made a sampler tool similar to the one shown in Cork's link one night out of a few bits and pieces lying around the workshop. Wouldn't even have cost a tenner.
