With both recent events and performance in mind, do you support the current government in the Republic of Ireland?

If the dail isnt dissolved tuesday, id be very surprised, cant be tenable for ff/fg rural tds and independents propping it up to keep this shi##show going

I don't support the government but I'd feel obliged to vote for them again in the morning because I see no viable alternative on offer.

Someone lamented the PDs the other day and while I was too young to vote for them I think it's a pity they faded away. But they faded away because the vast majority of people don't want good government, they want Johnny who fixed the potholes or who took credit for getting the passport that time Mary lost hers the week before she was going to Santa Ponza.

The problem with democracy is people get the government they deserve, and Irish people who have for generations prioritised the civil war and parish pump over national governance are getting what we deserve

A vote of no confidence must be likely too.
See rumours the psni riot squad where used, if true, the optics of this even to the general Irish public, are extremely unnerving, why they didnt realease the measures before cracking down on the protestors last night, shows how vindicative and sinister the Taosieach is

If truth being told, the present culture of horrendous waste and giving away tax money in private contracts was put in place by the PDs

I remember absolute carnage as mary harney put a haircut down to tax payers costing several hundred euro at the time, and she never reimbursed the state for it

They said all the right things, but carried on like a mini-FG when in power

Thinking about it, will there be an appetite for many Td's/Parties to go to the Country now.
I think even if the likes of the Healy Raes pull the rug out now, voters wont forget that they sat on the fence when it mattered, and crucify them, so they might want to weather this storm first, and hope (in vain I think) that people might forget with time.
Then you have Sinn Fein, if there is an election now, Fuel is going to be a major topic.
What can they offer (and actually deliver if elected) that will keep their voters on side? Again, the potatoe might be too hot right now.

I don’t support this government but I don’t think a change of government will be the answer either.

A bit of proper protest (the type that gives the government a fright) is healthy and is required to keep manners on politicians. The past number of days has probably achieved that for now.

Whether any more needs to be done, I’m not so sure.

We are an expensive country, that’s what happens when the economy is doing so well. Things would be expensive here if there was peace in the world but the wars have increased the inflation further and we’re all feeling it.
I think that if the government could demonstrate efficient use of tax money, people would be happier but we keep seeing waste. The free school meals for all is a case in point. People getting it who don’t need it, food being wasted, some kids getting more than one meal when their classmate won’t eat it. Teachers getting it (all true as I have kids in school and they tell me).

It’ll all be fine until the next recession.

One of the biggest problems is there is no good alternative

Last election there was only one candidate that came to this house, Mattie, he didn't meet anyone as the 4 of us were absent at the time, the rest didn't consider it worth their time to call or were arrogant enough to assume they had the vote.

Lads. This poll may be taken in a time of high emotion and rightly so but as well as casting your vote of dissatisfaction here a further extension of expressing your dissatisfaction with the current ruling parties is to send a quick short email your local TD's who are part of this government and tell them you are not happy and things need to change or they are DONE.
May be a futile exercise but at least there is a paper trail to your frustration/dissatisfaction

Judging by the Healy Rae’s complete lack of visibility in the last week, and the rather pathetic statement that Michael issued last night then there is absolutely no way they are voting against the government

All these politicians talk for a living, dialogue dialogue dialogue is all we hear and they can’t talk to a few lads from a protest. They don’t have to agree with them all they have to do is listen.
I’m all for a peaceful protest and I understand how governments work as much as I don’t like it but for fuck sake wouldn’t they have made some effort to listen before they sent in the heavy hand.

Biggest problem we have in my opinion is our current government are entitled useless narcissists who don’t live in the real world, I include ffg and all the opposition in this statement.
A government is only as good as its opposition, the opposition is there to ensure the government of the day does its work for the people and if this is not done, their job is to highlight and make the parties in power accountable for their shortcomings.
When was the last time the opposition made the powers to be accountable for anything?
They have lost contact with what’s happening around the country with people’s day to day struggles. They seem to consider people on the dole or people apparently fleeing their native country more important than this countries very citizens that provide tax’s, do essential jobs, make up communities and will strive to improve their country’s economy for the benefit of everyone’s children going forward.
The reality is that the opposition is just as bad if not worse than our current leaders but I think a message will have to be sent that they no longer represent the will of the ordinary working class people of rural Ireland, atleast if ffg were confined to the opposition side of the dail they might feel that they would have to change and fight to get back into power.

The way I see it there are a few problems apart from the government (or alongside the government)

1) a completely useless opposition, that people are quite rightly reluctant to vote for. This is a major problem as people can’t vote for change no matter how much they want it. This has lead to complacency and outright utter contempt from the government. Not having a strong viable opposition holding the government to account is a man absolutely massive problem

2) a media that is completely and utterly bought by the government. The fact that there is absolutely no media outlet (mainstream) that is willing to even question the government and hold them to account on even the most basic of topics is an absolutely huge problem. If people weren’t aware of this then it became immediately obvious this week. The government and media are absolutely in bed together, the number of examples is far too great, but I urge people to look at MCCollough’s interview with Peader Tobin and that Christina lady from cork on Liveline, just 2 examples of the absolute contempt they hold anybody questioning the government in. Hell the Minister for Justice’s sister was the one heavily involved in the interviews on the main political program about this protest. They didn’t even have the decency to sub her out for this one

3). Public apathy. Most on here are self employed hard working, head down drive on till the job is done type of people. However a large section of society are now getting a lot of money in their 9-5 jobs, and a significant portion of that are getting paid by the government. They are literally oblivious to the trials and tribulations of running a small business

4). The government is heavily influenced by NGO’s and other bodies that nobody votes for, ironically most of these NGO’s are government funded. These organisations have far far far too much influence on government and are driving a lot of current policy. This form of governance is fundamentally wrong, we vote for governments to govern. So much happens now that is never in a party manifesto. This became abundantly clear with Mehole repeatedly stating he would only speak with the irha etc. That is fundamentally wrong

5) Society change - with wealth and cushy jobs the “woke” mentality has become embedded in Irish society, at levels that are probably higher than most countries. As farmers and small business people who generally think logically and matter of factly these people are the complete opposite of us, and there is a significant number of them, and they have huge sway over government, completely disproportionately actually. Our society is probably more diverse ideologically than it’s ever been, by definition that will lead to more extreme policies that people will see as extreme and completely away from their own ideological view point

Many others I’m sure but these are the biggest as I see it

The whole thing is so corrupt that anyone trying to make a change either leaves or gets corrupted. Take George Lee as an example, he was genuinely trying to do good but when he seen how things worked he had to leave.

James ds would win an election if he ran next time. But he's already trying explain some things
