Winter Barley 2021

I reckoned I’d leave the WB spraying until this cold spell has passed, not sure if the cold stress so soon after spraying would affect it. I doubt aphids will be an issue after the weekend...Weather was dead calm today, just as well as I was spraying off stubble and I’ve got WB surrounding most if not all of the fields I was spraying today. Will give the sprayer a good clean tomorrow with All Clear Extra and drain it down for the cold days ahead.

A lot of sprayers on the go around our area this afternoon. I got mine done but the corners of fields were the wettest I have ever seen. We have had fairly continuous rain since sowing, just a few gaps of two days or so dry. Lovely calm day for it though.

Winter barley plots tillering away.

A bit of nitrogen hunger visible, we’ll probably see them green up when we get mild weather following this cold spell. I usually notice it and wonder is down to N release from the soil when temperatures change from cold to warm.
